Emma Raducanu picks American stay instead of Oxford return

Emma Raducanu has chosen to stay in the United States this summer over a potential return to Oxford.

The tennis pro recently travelled to Washington and had been competing in the WTA 500 for the past week.

After initial wins against Elise Mertens and Peyton Stearns, Raducanu was knocked out by Paula Badosa in the quarterfinals on Friday.

Rather than return to England, where she had been based to compete in Wimbledon earlier this summer, the tennis player has chosen to remain in the States.

The 21-year-old will next compete in the Cincinnati Open which takes place from Sunday, August 11 to Monday, August 19.

This will all be in preparation for Raducanu’s outing at the US Open later this summer where she will hope to recreate her 2021 success and take home the trophy again.

Raducanu had been spotted visiting Oxford prior to Wimbledon and many wondered if she would return to the city after the summer competitions.

The Brit also ruled out studying at the University of Oxford following her visit to the city in June.

“I’m very much focused on my professional tennis career,” she said.

“Once that’s over maybe or once I have more disposition or more time, that’s for sure something I would love to explore.

“For now I’m very much focused on the tennis.”
