Oxford United have joined the race to try and recruit Bolton Wanderers striker Victor Adeboyejo.
This is according to Pete O’Rourke, who has also reported that Turkish Super Lig club Goztepe are also interested in a move for the Bolton man.
Oxford, however, may fancy their chances of winning the race, having been promoted from League One at the end of the 2023/24 campaign, following a victory against the Trotters.
The U’s were much better than Ian Evatt’s men at Wembley and secured a deserved 2-0 win – and Oxford could come back to haunt Wanderers again with a potential move for their forward.
The striker department is an area that the U’s probably need to take a look at before the summer transfer window closes.

Bristol City closing in on move for Oxford United player
Marcus McGuane looks set to link up with his former manager Liam Manning at Ashton Gate.
Their goalkeeping, full-back, central midfield and wing departments have been adequately addressed now, but there’s probably work to be done in both the centre-back and the centre-forward area.
In central defence, they are lacking depth and Elliott Moore and Ciaron Brown need more competition for a starting spot.
And up front, they need more firepower.
Mark Harris has scored two goals in his opening two league matches, Dane Scarlett has joined on loan and Will Goodwin is a potential option when he comes back, but the addition of another forward to provide Harris with more competition for a starting spot would be ideal.
Scarlett hasn’t always been convincing at a senior level and Goodwin is yet to play in the Championship.
With this in mind, the U’s could struggle unless they make another decent addition in this area before the transfer window closes on August 30th.
Oxford United and Goztepe eyeing Victor Adeboyejo move
O’Rourke believes that Oxford and Goztepe are both considering moves for Adeboyejo before the window closes next week.
The U’s have used the free agent and loan markets quite heavily this summer and with this in mind, Des Buckingham may have the chance to spend fees on a couple of players before the end of the window.
Having already made quite a few additions, it probably won’t be a very busy end to the window, and it could allow them to focus a lot of their effort on getting a deal for the Bolton man over the line.
However, they aren’t the only team in this race for the player, who shone at the Toughsheet Community Stadium last season.

Goztepe have held a long-term interest in the player and could potentially move for him.
Oxford United could potentially win the race for Victor Adeboyejo’s signature
The forward area is still one that needs to be addressed at the Kassam Stadium – and Adeboyejo could be a solid addition.
He may not have been able to shine at Barnsley, but he has done well under Evatt and could be an asset under Buckingham.
Bolton may not want to lose a player of the forward’s quality, but the chance to make a step up to the second tier again could be appealing for him.
And Oxford could potentially have the funds to get a deal over the line for him.
Regardless of whether he comes in or not, the U’s need to bring in another striker before the deadline.
