Reynold’s Supermarket on Reynolds Way in Abingdon serves the local community with groceries and other convenience items.
The business was visited by Vale of White Horse District Council’s Environmental Health team on Thursday, July 11.
Inspectors found that improvement was “necessary” and handed the shop a lowly two-out-of-five hygiene rating.

One major issue was the store’s cleanliness and condition of both the facilities and the building which were rated as needing “necessary improvement”.
This includes having an appropriate layout, ventilation, hand washing facilities and pest control to enable good food hygiene.
Despite this, Reynold’s Supermarket’s hygienic handling of food was regarded as “good” following the snap inspection by the environmental health team.
This refers to the preparation, cooking, re-heating, cooling and storage of food.
Similarly, the staff’s management of food safety was classed as “generally satisfactory” by the inspectors in July.

This refers to having a system or checks in place to ensure that the food sold or served is safe to eat and if there is evidence that staff know about food safety.
It also concerns whether or not the food safety officer has confidence that standards will be maintained in future.
