£30k-a-year private school speaks out after ‘inadequate’ Ofsted report

Parents pay up to £30,500 a year at Oxford International College on London Place for pupils aged between 14 and 19 years old to be educated.

The school, chaired by Andrew Fitzmaurice, has just short of 700 pupils between its school and sixth form year groups.

Ofsted inspectors visited between Tuesday, April 16 and Thursday, April 18 and found several problems.

The major outlined issue was the failure to safeguard children at the school effectively, raising serious concerns.

Oxford International College has now responded to the damning report and reassured parents that several areas have already been improved.

A spokesperson for OIC said: “The safety and welfare of our students is our top priority.

“We have already addressed a significant number of identified focus areas and are committed to going above and beyond Ofsted’s recommendations.”

Ofsted’s report read: “The arrangements for safeguarding are not effective.

“Leaders do not always recognise when something constitutes a serious concern and, consequently, they sometimes fail to take important actions to keep pupils safe.

“The school’s safeguarding culture is not open and transparent and leaders do not refer to children’s services or liaise with other agencies when they should.

“They do not have a clear approach to communicating with agencies overseas where necessary, despite this being raised at a previous inspection of the boarding provision.

“This has left some pupils at increased risk of harm.”
