Burnley has two English championships, in 1920-21 and 1959-60, one FA Cup title, in 1913-14, and two Charity Shield titles, in 1960 and 1973. It also has two First Division runner-up finishes, in 1919-20 and 1961-62, and two FA Cups, in 1946-47 and 1961-62. The team also reached the quarter-finals of the 1960-61 European Cup. Burnley is one of five clubs whose trophy cabinet includes titles in all four professional divisions of English soccer, along with Wolverhampton Wanderers, Preston North End, Sheffield United and Portsmouth.

The team has played its home matches at Turf Moor since February 1883, having moved from its original premises at Calder Vale.12 The club’s colors, wine and light blue, were adopted before the start of the 1910-11 season in homage to the then league champions Aston Villa,13 and the team is nicknamed Clarets (Vinotintos), one of the dominant colors of the first kit.1 The club’s emblem is based on the Burnley coat of arms,^(14) and the club has a long-standing rivalry with Blackburn Rovers, with whom it plays the East Lancashire derby.

It was proclaimed League Cup champion in 1986, while in the First Division, an achievement it could only enjoy for two seasons.

In 2016, they reached, for the first time in their history, the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy final, although they lost it at Wembley to Barnsley 3-2.

In May 2016, they were promoted to EFL League One with a 3-0 win over Wycombe Wanderers in the final league match.2 They caused a surprise in the 2015-16 FA Cup with a 3-2 win over top-flight club Swansea City.
