The Iron took the lead with just five minutes on the clock, when Callum Roberts made his way to the edge of the penalty box and fired past Rylee Mitchell.

Andre Burley then twice cleared efforts off the line to keep the Hoops in it, with a leveller coming after 18 minutes.

Lewis Coyle kept a move alive and crossed for Corie Andrews to poke past home goalkeeper Ross Fitzsimons.

Roberts though bagged his brace four minutes into the second period, as his free kick took a wicked deflection and flew past Mitchell.

The Iron piled on the pressure in search of a two-goal buffer, and Mitchell had to be alert to deny Danny Whitehall midway through the second half.

City nicked a point four minutes into injury time though when Drewe headed in at the back post from Josh Parker’s cross.

Hoops manager Ross Jenkins told the club’s YouTube channel: “It’s a tough place to come. The fans are up and in their numbers. It was always going to be a difficult fixture.

“We’ve worked this week to make sure we look after the basics, we haven’t done too much tactical work, and there was fight, hunger, aggression, and it was a front-footed performance. That’s what we wanted.

“The spirit in training has been first class, and we saw that. You’ve got to keep on going.

“I’m really delighted with the point. Obviously the goals are avoidable, but it’s a difficult place to come and the fans are brilliant, so to take something away from here is important.”
