Goals, assists and first starts: How did U’s players fare on international duty?

Seven U’s players were initially called up, however Leicester City loanee Ben Nelson withdrew from England’s ‘Elite League’ squad, formerly the Under-20s.

The centre half was withdrawn at half-time in United’s 1-1 draw at Portsmouth prior to the international break.

U’s striker Mark Harris made his first start for Wales as Craig Bellamy’s side beat Montenegro 1-0 in the UEFA Nations League, with Fulham midfielder Harry Wilson scoring the only goal of the game from the penalty spot nine minutes before half-time.

Harris collected his seventh cap for his country, and came close to grabbing a goal on two occasions in the opening stages, but both times narrowly missed out on connecting with crosses.

He played 89 minutes before being replaced by Sheffield United striker Kieffer Moore.

Harris was an unused substitute on Friday night as Wales drew 2-2 in Iceland, having led 2-0 at half-time.

Greg Leigh played 90 minutes in both of Jamaica’s Concacaf Nations League fixtures.

He was at left back for both games, and grabbed an assist for Romario Williams to double the lead in a 2-0 victory away against Nicaragua.

Leigh’s near post header from a corner by Leicester forward Bobby De Cordova-Reid looked destined to nestle over the line, but Williams prodded in the final touch from very close range.

Jamaica were then held to a goalless draw at home to Honduras, as both nations progressed to the quarter-finals and qualified for next summer’s Concacaf Gold Cup.

Ciaron Brown was an unused substitute as Northern Ireland were held to a goalless draw against Belarus in the UEFA Nations League, but came on shortly before half-time in the 5-0 win at home to Bulgaria last night.

Standard Liege midfielder Isaac Price’s brace gave Michael O’Neill’s side a 2-0 lead inside half an hour, with an own goal from goalkeeper Dimitar Mitov adding a third.

Price completed his hat-trick and Exeter City striker Josh Magennis added a fifth in the closing stages.

Tottenham Hotspur loanee Dane Scarlett was promoted from England’s Elite League squad to the Under-21s for Euro qualifiers against Ukraine and Azerbaijan.

Scarlett was unused in a 2-1 win against Ukraine, but got a goal and an assist from the bench in a 7-0 romp over Azerbaijan.

Peter Kioso’s wait to make his international debut will have to go on, despite receiving his first DR Congo call-up.

The right back was initially on a standby list, but an injury to Ipswich Town defender Axel Tuanzebe saw Kioso included in the squad for a double-header of Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Tanzania. DR Congo won the games 1-0 and 2-0 at home and away respectively.

Marselino Ferdinan played just over half an hour from the bench as Indonesia drew 2-2 in Bahrain in a 2026 World Cup third round qualifying tie, and came on at half-time in a 2-0 qualifying loss against China.
