The Hoops gifted the visitors the lead after 14 minutes when Jalen Jones rolled the ball back to where he thought goalkeeper Kai McKenzie-Lyle was, however he was on the far side of his goal and watched in disbelief as the ball crossed the line.

City battled back, with Reece Fleet mistiming a header and Josh Ashby seeing a strike saved by Patrick Boyes.

Shortly after half an hour though, the Linnets doubled their lead when Josh Hmami slotted in after Fin Barnes chased a lost cause and cut the ball back.

Corie Andrews forced an early save after the restart, while Zac McEachran rattled the crossbar.

Andrews then halved the deficit after 57 minutes, curling the ball home after Ashby had threaded him through on goal.

The away side restored their two-goal advantage though when Tommy Hughes swung a free kick to the back post, where Sam Walker rose highest to head the ball across McKenzie-Lyle and into the corner.
