Sunderland have been given a promotion verdict after they continued their fine run of form vs Oxford United.
The Black Cats showed no signs of slowing down in their early promotion push at the weekend after they saw off Oxford United with ease in a 2-0 victory.
Sunderland have been incredible for the first 10 games of the 2024/25 Championship season, and they without a doubt deserve their spot at the top of the tree, where they currently sit with a five-point gap from 2nd place.
Whilst every player was on top form in the comfortable victory against the newly-promoted U’s, Jobe Bellingham was incredible in particular in the centre-of-the-park for the Black Cats. Wilson Isidor also continued his impeccable form leading the line for Regis Le Bris’ side.
All signs are pointing towards a promotion push this season, and their chances have been rated after their brilliant points haul so far.
No one will have expected such a brilliant start for Le Bris with the Black Cats, and it has got to a point where it is by no means a purple patch for his side.
Their promotion chances have been rated at this early stage, per The Second Tier Podcast on YouTube. On the podcast, Ryan Dilks said: “This is the sort of thing a promotion contender does and we’re seeing more and more of these promotion credentials every single week.
“Every problem that they have just seems to get solved. Who’s going to play up front for them this season? Well, Wilson Isidor now has four goals in six games. Dan Ballard’s injured is he? Well here’s Chris Mepham, he’s been Sublime. Jack Clarke’s been sold? Well let’s give Romaine Mundle, who’s been excellent since coming in.
“They’re just a team that absorbs every blow it gets dealt. That’s the making of a genuine promotion contender and I think Sunderland are definitely that at this stage. I think anyone who’s denying that now is just talking rubbish.”
Sunderland have suffered just the two defeats at this stage. These both fell on their travels against Watford and Plymouth Argyle.
Sunderland have the momentum to go all the way at this stage
It is fairly safe to suggest that at this point Sunderland have shown very few signs of slowing down in their hunt for promotion so far in the 2024/25 campaign.
There has been the odd blip against Plymouth and Watford, however both games were followed up by resounding home victories. That shows the discipline and mental strength within the squad is tangible, something that couldn’t be said in the latter stages of the 2023/24 campaign under the likes of Michael Beale and Mike Dodds.
There has been plenty of momentum within the side, and there is certainly no signs of that slowing down with Sunderland’s favourable upcoming fixtures It provides a real opportunity for Le Bris to further cement his side’s place at the top of the Championship table.
