One surprise Sunderland performance has proven that Kristjaan Speakman made one correct call.
Sunderland yet again managed to notch another win at the Stadium of Light as they coasted to victory against Oxford United 2-0.
From the attacking front, there were brilliant showings from Wilson Isidor, who bagged another classy goal to give the Black Cats a two-goal lead, whilst Patrick Roberts also looked incredibly dangerous on the right flank for Regis Le Bris’ side.
It was also a stunning performance from Jobe Bellingham in-the centre-of-the-park, who once again looked to dictate play with ease and made a significant difference against Oxford United.
On the defensive side, Chris Mepham also proved to be immense at the back, and was crucial in Sunderland’s quest of notching a clean sheet against the U’s, whilst Simon Moore also didn’t look out of place in-between the sticks, something that has proven one decision made this summer turned out to be the correct call.
Sunderland summer signing Simon Moore proves key transfer decision paid off
At the start of the summer transfer window, Sunderland were slowly plodding about doing their business, and Moore became their first signing of the campaign.
It may have been regarded as somewhat of a lacklustre arrival at the time, however he proved to be dependable when called upon.
Whilst at first it looked like the loss of Anthony Patterson due to injury could cause some concerns for the Black Cats, the signing of Moore can now be seen as a solid option as a back-up, and it has proven that the move made by Kristjaan Speakman has truly paid off on this occasion.
Sunderland squad depth could make significant differenceÂ
Having the option of Moore, who has been regarded as the ‘perfect’ alternative option for Patterson has helped to prove that Sunderland’s squad depth will certainly not prove to be Le Bris’ achilles heel this season.
There are plenty of options across the pitch, and whilst the attack looked like a troubling spot that needed extra firepower, the abilities of Isidor that have been shown across the past week has proven that there are no issues in regards to the personnel leading the line, especially with having Eleizer Mayenda and Aaron Connolly as dependable back-ups at Championship level.
Sunderland boss Le Bris will be thoroughly glad that all of his signings have been able to hit the ground running, especially Moore, who was the only Black Cats summer signing that arrived before the Frenchman, and it is clear that his clean sheet performance proved that he can be a dependable player within the squad.
