Tech CEO studying at Oxford University outlines ambitious future plans

Sara Wahedi was born in Kabul but emigrated from Afghanistan with her family to North America in 2005.

She co-founded the civic technology company Ehtesab but is currently the CEO of Civaam which is a civic-tech firm that launched in 2024.

The 29-year-old is now based in Oxfordshire and studying at the historic institution having shared a Matriculation Day photograph on social media platform X on Saturday, October 19.

The student has only just started at Oxford but has been quick to outline her plans for after her degree finishes with a bold statement on X.

“[My] college master [asked] what I hoped to do after Oxford,” she said.

“[I said] to hold perpetrators of the worst international crimes accountable, led by the innovation of technologists living in crisis regions.

“[My college master responded] ‘go forth’”.

Miss Wahedi earned a Bachelor’s degree in urban studies and architecture from Columbia University earlier this year.

Earlier this month she said: “Matriculated at Oxford University today,” said Miss Wahedi.

“I remembered our first nights as refugees in Canada, waiting in line for beds at a shelter.

“My mom gripped my hand [and said] ‘This is only a nightmare, when you start school, you’ll dream happy things’.

“Thank you for letting me dream big, mom.”
