The incident occurred on Monday morning as a teenage boy cycling was involved in a collision with a moped on Banbury Road near Summertown Cycles.
Police closed the road and an ambulance raced to the scene with Thames Valley Police confirming that the boy was taken to hospital.
A spokesperson for Thames Valley Police said: “Banbury Road in Summertown, Oxford, is currently closed in both directions between Oakthorpe Road and Beechcroft Road due to a serious road traffic collision involving a moped and a bicycle.

“The cyclist has been taken to hospital with serious injuries.
“The road is likely to remain closed for several hours while investigations are under way.
“We would ask the public to please avoid the area and find alternative routes while emergency services are dealing with the incident.”
The road remains closed at the time of writing.
