Anton Lesser, one of the finest performers of Dickens, will light up the The Sheldonian in Oxford on Friday Dec 6 with his dazzling, virtuoso re-telling of Charles Dickens’ immortal festive story.
Following his sell-out performance in Red Sky at Sunrise – Laurie Lee in Words and Music READ OUR REVIEW HERE at Oxford Playhouse earlier this year, Anton Lesser is delighted to return to Oxford – and the streets he knows so well from his role as Chief Superintendent Bright in Endeavour ANTON LESSER ON LIFE AFTER ENDEAVOUR – to perform his brilliant A Christmas Carol.
Anton says: “Returning to Oxford is a bit like coming home for Christmas. It has a special place in my heart – with the warmest memories of both Endeavour and Red Sky at Sunrise at Oxford Playhouse. So to return with this most special of Christmas stories, and to share it in the Sheldonian Theatre, will be truly magical.”
Orchestra of the Swan will only heighten A Christmas Carol with well-loved Christmas music, as the on-stage musicians weave around the action, heightening the suspense and emotion of this classic Christmas story through harp, trumpet, and sumptuous strings.
Anton Lesser adds: “I become so absorbed in the music that I have to remember not to miss my next cue! I love the interaction with the musicians and I’m finding this is a whole new way of performing – the emotional interweave between the words and music has such an impact.”
Anton Lesser (Wolf Hall, Endeavour EXCLUSIVE: “I’ve just been very lucky” Anton Lesser on Endeavour, Game of Thrones, Disney’s Andor and so many more) has read almost all of Dickens’ works for audio, and starred in the BBC’sDickensian. He has one of the country’s most recognisable and distinctive voices and is renowned for his extensive radio work, as he brings Dickens’s teeming cast of brilliant characters to life.
So while there may have been more Christmas Carols than ghosts of Christmas past in recent years, this is the one not to miss!
