Decision to not take up extra allocation for Leeds United away explained

There is little doubt that the clash has been one of the most eagerly anticipated by fans since the Sky Bet Championship fixtures were released at the end of June.

The U’s received an initial allocation of 2,018 tickets, with that selling out on Tuesday, as it approached general sale.

United then requested an additional allocation, consisting of 898 tickets, but as part of this, the U’s were told that any unsold tickets would need to be paid for by the club.

Oxford United Supporters’ Panel reported: “Many fans have been disappointed not to get tickets to the Leeds away match, with the initial allocation selling out before going on general sale.

“So far this season, about 85 per cent of tickets for away fixtures have been purchased by away members and season ticket holders.

“With only the general sale window remaining, the club therefore requested a reduced additional allocation in line with the club’s experience and expectation of ticket sales. This request was denied, therefore no further allocation was made.

“Whilst there is only one match this season that has seen us sell the 3,000 seats [Bristol City away] that this allocation would take us to, we know that Leeds is one of the most attractive fixtures for our first season back in the Championship.

“We know of several season ticket holders waiting for it to go on general sale to buy seats together with friends and family. We know of families planning to build it into the first weekend of their school holidays.”
