The owners of a popular longtime deli have opened a cozy bagel shop at the corner of Park Avenue and Oxford Street. It is geared especially toward neighborhood residents looking for a quick grab-and-go nosh.
The Bagel Shop by Fox’s serves several flavors of bagels made with the traditional process of fermenting the dough for at least 24 hours and boiling them in water that contains barley malt. Bagels with seeds or other toppings are given a generous coating before being baked into rounds with a shiny crust, crisp exterior and chewy interior.
Bagels may be ordered on their own, filled with cream cheese or in the form of breakfast sandwiches. The shop also serves coffee; its own blend of Joe Bean coffee is coming soon.
Brothers Alex and Jason Rheinwald have owned the 95-year-old Fox’s Deli in Brighton since 2022. The Brighton natives initially planned to buy a bagel shop, but the deal fell through.
Jason, an experienced chef who graduated from Le Cordon Bleu Institute of Culinary Arts in Pittsburgh, started experimenting with making bagels at home and, once he arrived at a recipe, began offering them at the deli. When they were well received, the brothers decided to forge ahead with their own bagel shop. Bagels continue to be offered at the Fox’s Deli as well.
The shop does not have seating, but it will likely have a few tables outside in nice weather.
The Bagel Shop by Fox’s is at 360 Park Ave. It is open 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday and 7 a.m. to noon Sunday. Parking is on the street.
