Small Business Saturday UK is a grassroots, non-commercial campaign, which highlights small business success and encourages consumers to ‘shop local.

Across Oxfordshire, there are dozens of small shops and stores that would appreciate your business.

Sometimes the best Christmas gifts have a more local, personal touch, wouldn’t you say?

Well to help, we asked you for some choice recommendations and you responded in droves.

Fancy a new bike? “Summertown Cyles. Always helpful and fix our bikes in good time,” one user said.

Or looking for a new mortgage? “Orange Frog Mortgages in Abingdon.”

As we approach the big day (25th) you’ll want to be looking your best. Never fear, “Headington barbers,” is on hand according to our readers.

Small Business Saturday

The campaign, led by industry support group Small Business Britain and American Express, argued the festive period could provide a “lifeline” to those businesses struggling from a lack of confidence.

Nearly 11m Brits shopped locally on Small Business Saturday last year, spending a collective of £669m.

Some 38% did so in recognition of the economic challenges small businesses faced the year prior, especially following post-pandemic woes and the continuous cost of living crisis.

“Small businesses deliver an immeasurable value that goes beyond their economic contribution,” Michelle Ovens, director of Small Business Saturday UK, said.

“They are the heart and soul of our communities, bringing joy and vibrancy to our lives and local areas, as well as delivering essential local services,” Ovens added.
