Sara Wahedi was born in Kabul but emigrated from Afghanistan with her family to North America in 2005.
She co-founded the civic technology company Ehtesab but is currently the CEO of Civaam which is a civic-tech firm that launched in 2024.
The 29-year-old is now based in Oxfordshire and studying at the historic institution after being named as a Clarendon Scholar.

Ms Wahedi was amongst the crowds of students who attended the University of Oxford’s Winter Soiree on Friday, December 6.
She posted several photographs of her in an Afghan dress at the formal event along with friends as live music played.
Accompanying the main picture of herself in the dress, Ms Wahedi wrote on X: “An Afghan Girl in her Afghan dress.
“Tonight at the Oxford University winter soirée.”
Videos posted from the event showed a version of John Legend’s All of Me being sung by a band on stage as the crowd danced along.

Many students are now preparing to leave the University of Oxford for the winter break following the grand ball last night.
An update from Exeter College today (Saturday, December 7) said: “Safe travels to all Exeter College students leaving Oxford for winter vacation.
“We’ll see you back here in January.”
