Boss gives update on five of United’s injured players

U’s captain Moore felt a knock on his knee in stoppage time during the 2-2 draw at Luton Town, and then missed the 1-1 draw at Portsmouth before the international break, while Nelson went off at half-time at Fratton Park.

United welcome West Bromwich Albion tomorrow afternoon, and head coach Des Buckingham said: “We’re expecting both of them. They’ve trained this week, and as long as they come through, they’ll be in contention for selection.”

Josh McEachran though will miss the clash against the Baggies, and is more likely to feature at home against Derby County on Tuesday night.

“Josh we’re expecting back in contention for Tuesday. This weekend is probably too soon,” said Buckingham.

“If we needed him and we needed to push him, which at this stage of the season would be crazy to do, we probably could, but with everything that we know, it’s safer for Tuesday, and it’ll be good to have him back.”

Joe Bennett and Cameron Brannagan are longer-term absentees, while wingers Przemyslaw Placheta and Matt Phillips can also be added to that list.

Asked about the wide duo, Buckingham said: “With the others, we’re expecting nobody else to really return until the November international window.

“It’s going to be a good test of our squad, but we’ve built a good squad depth and we’ve shown that already when players have stepped in.”
