The incident occurred at around 4.15am this morning (Monday, December 9) on the A34 with traffic halted in both directions between the A44 at Yarnton and Junction 9 of the M40.
This was to allow the two horses to be safely captured with both sides of the road inaccessible while the emergency services dealt with the incident.
A spokesperson for National Highways said: “We received reports of horses on the road at approximately 3am this morning.

“The road was initially closed in both directions, southbound reopened at 4.15am and the northbound carriageway reopened at 5.20am.”
Thames Valley confirmed officers also attended the scene and that there were two horses on the loose on the road.
