Cricket club raises £2,750 for air ambulance with charity tournament

Horspath Cricket Club organised the tournament to raise funds for the Stokenchurch-based organisation which serves Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire, and Berkshire.

Club members gathered in the clubroom recently to hand over a cheque for £2,750.

The six-a-side competition was held at the Recreation Ground on August Bank Holiday Sunday.

Ten teams, consisting of men’s and women’s players, juniors, friends, and supporters, took part in the event.

Horspath secretary Russell Smith said: “It was a brilliant effort from everyone involved to raise such an amount for Thames Valley Air Ambulance and is something the club is very proud of.

“It also successfully brought together all sections of the club – men’s, women, youth, and social members – on the one day for a most worthy cause.”

Thames Valley Air Ambulance was chosen as the charity following the loss of two prominent club members, Max Eason and Tommy Pritchard, earlier this year.

Ruth Dunkin, Thames Valley Air Ambulance’s head of community and events, added: “It was fabulous to go along on the day to support Horspath and we are thrilled that they managed to exceed their fundraising target.

“Being fully funded by the communities we serve, the crews on our iconic red helicopter and critical care response vehicles quite simply couldn’t do what they do without support and fundraising events like this.”
