Des Buckingham: Sold-Out Stadium Will Make A Difference

All roads lead to OX4 on Saturday night for Oxford United’s huge Sky Bet League One Play-Off Semi-Final against Peterborough United.

With the first-leg in Oxford now officially sold-out, it’s set to be an occasion to remember as the U’s look to build an advantage for the second-leg next Wednesday night in Peterborough.

Wembley is the destination Des Buckingham’s side wants to reach, with promotion to the Championship the target for the season.

The work to this point has been a cumulation of all of the efforts from every member of the squad, and Des recognised this as he previewed the game against Peterborough as he admitted he can’t wait for Saturday night to roll around.

He said: “I can’t wait. I can’t remember the last time the Kassam was sold out, but I do know that when the team is trying to be successful the appetite is there.

“To be able to fill the Kassam on Saturday night to continue on that really positive atmosphere that’s been created over the last couple of months is one we’re all really looking forward to.

“We now need to make sure that we do everything we can to put on a good performance and work off of each other to try and get the result.

“This club is more than the men’s first-team. It’s made up of so many different parts, whether it’s the women’s team, the disability team, the community, everyone around the place from the chefs to ground staff, and of course the fans.

“There’s many more that I haven’t even included there, but we’re aware that we’ve got a full crowd coming to support what is the men’s first-team, but we are a reflection of part of our club that we want to try and make people proud of.

“To put ourselves in a strong position now going in against what will be a very tough Peterborough side to try and get to Wembley is one we have strived together and worked so hard to try and achieve.

“It’s making sure we look to put ourselves in the best position come Wednesday to allow us to go again against one of the best teams in the league.”
