Emma Raducanu opts for United States over Olympics and Oxford University

Emma Raducanu has chosen the United States over competing at the Olympics or a possible move to the University of Oxford.

The 21-year-old tennis player has taken a trip to Washington ahead of a WTA 500, documenting her arrival in the States with an Instagram post next to the Washington Monument.

Raducanu opted not to represent Team GB at the tournament with fears over injuries rife due to the clay courts used in France.

“I’m very single-minded and I do things my own way and in my own time whenever I want,” she said before the Olympics.

“So not in a diva way, [I’m] just prioritising my body and my health because I know if I’m fit, I know if I’m giving my 100 per cent, I know great things are happening and coming.

“I just don’t think there’s any need to put additional stress on my body or any risk, especially with my history.”

Rumours were rife at the start of Wimbledon that Raducanu may spend the summer gearing up for a potential stint at the University of Oxford.

This was due to the tennis star visiting the city before the tournament began but she soon ruled out joining the famous institution.

“I’m very much focused on my professional tennis career,” she said in the post-match press conference.

“Once that’s over maybe or once I have more disposition or more time, that’s for sure something I would love to explore.

“For now I’m very much focused on the tennis.”
