Emma Raducanu’s cutting clapback to Judy Murray after Oxford University links

Emma Raducanu has seemingly given a cutting sarcastic response to Judy Murray after being linked to the University of Oxford.

The 21-year-old had withdrawn from the mixed doubles at Wimbledon earlier this month when she was due to play alongside Andy Murray.

Ms Raducanu opted to play it safe after waking up with soreness in her wrist and decided to focus on her own singles push.

This led to criticism as the former US Open champion’s withdrawal was described as “astonishing” by Andy Murray’s mother Judy who later claimed her comments were sarcastic.

Having addressed the comments at the time, Raducanu has seemingly gone back into the drama for round two after travelling to Washington to compete in the WTA 500.

Posting photos on Instagram of her win over Elise Mertens, she used Ms Murray’s term “astonishing” to respond to Frances Tiafoe’s invite for a mixed doubles partnership in the comments.

Prior to Wimbledon there were some who wondered if education would be prioritised over tennis as Raducanu visited Oxford and was rumoured to be interested in the university.

“I’m very much focused on my professional tennis career,” she said in the post-match press conference.

“For now I’m very much focused on the tennis.”
