Free Bus Travel For Military Personnel On Remembrance Sunday | Oxfordshire Guardian

To honour Remembrance Sunday on 10th November, Oxford Bus Group is offering free travel to all UK military personnel, veterans, and cadets attending commemorative events.

The complimentary service extends across Oxford Bus Company, Thames Travel, Carousel Buses, and Pulhams bus services. This offer is available to those in military uniform or anyone who can show a service ID, veteran’s badge, or service medals, including cadets.

Please note, this free travel is for local bus services only and does not apply to the airline or City Sightseeing Oxford routes.

In addition to free travel, at 11:00 am, bus drivers across the network will observe a two-minute silence. Buses will pause at the nearest stop, allowing passengers and drivers alike to reflect and pay their respects. Due to parades and Remembrance events in towns and cities along the routes, passengers should expect some delays or diversions.

Oxford Bus Group’s Managing Director, Luke Marion, expressed the company’s support for this national day of remembrance, saying,

“Remembrance Sunday is an important and sombre reminder of the sacrifices made by so many in our Armed Forces and we wanted to do something to help.

“We have veterans working in our business and we’re proud of their service, this is a small way in which we can say thank you and show our appreciation and gratitude.”

Remembrance Sunday marks the anniversary of the Armistice, observed with a two-minute silence every year. At the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918, the guns of the Western Front fell silent, ending four years of continuous warfare in World War I.
