Brendan Mullin was born in 1963 in Jerusalem, where his father was on assignment, and spent his early years in Israel. When the family returned to Dublin, he was educated at Blackrock College, studied law at Trinity College Dublin and then went to Oxford.
In the amateur era, rugby was a hobby, not a job, but well-educated players from south Dublin could use their connections to forge a career in finance or business.
