Fire crews were called at around 9am to the prestigious hotel on Beaumont Street.

Police, fire and ambulances were at the scene as crews dealt with the incident. 

Staff and guests were evacuated from the hotel and police tape was put in place around the hotel.

Emergency services at the scene (Image: Newsquest) A road closure on St Giles’ was in place with traffic diverted away from the scene. 

Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue said it was a “very small fire in an electrical unit in the basement” and was “contained”.

The fire has been extinguished and the fire service has confirmed there is no further risk at this stage. 

Those staying in the hotel have since been allowed back into the building.
