Luton Town welcome Oxford United to Kenilworth Road in their latest Championship outing on Tuesday night.
Luton Town have made a slow start to life back in the Football League following their relegation from the Premier League. They slipped out of the top flight earlier this year after finishing in the bottom three along with Burnley and Sheffield United.
Rob Edwards’ side are currently sat in 19th position after the first seven games of the new season. They are only two points outside the drop zone.
The Hatters lost 3-1 away at Plymouth Argyle last time out and will be eager to bounce back with a win as soon as possible. New boy Victor Moses got their goal at Home Park.
As for Oxford United, they have adapted well to Championship football after winning promotion from League One. They beat Bolton Wanderers 2-0 in the play-off final at Wembley and went up with Derby County and Portsmouth.
Des Buckingham’s side have 10 points on the board and are three points off the play-offs. They drew 0-0 at home to Burnley in their latest game which wasn’t a bad result.
Here, a handful of our writers make their predictions for the game…
Harry Mail
“Luton Town need to start picking up some more points after their slow start to the new season. They won back-to-back games before their loss at Plymouth Argyle.
“There is no doubt that they have some useful players at this level such as Carlton Morris and Elijah Adebayo but it just hasn’t clicked for them yet this term.
“Oxford United are a well-drilled outfit and have been decent under Des Buckingham since their promotion. They will see this is a game that they could potentially get something from based on current from.
“I think it will be a close match and I can’t really split the two at the moment so I’ll say draw.”
Prediction: Luton Town 1-1 Oxford United
James Ray
“Oxford United have surprised many with their form upon rising to the Championship but with three defeats from three on the road, they’re sure to be up against it here despite Luton Town’s poor start.
“The Hatters have the tools to fight it out at the right end of the table but it isn’t coming together for them. Something is missing from the side that battled hard against relegation and fought against the odds to get to the Premier League.
“However, with the home faithful behind them and Oxford’s poor away form in mind, I’m leaning towards a narrow Luton win.”
