Major city road remains closed after tree blocks way overnight

Storm Darragh has been having a serious impact across Oxfordshire with roads closed, properties damaged and several trees coming down.

One of these trees smashed down onto Headington Hill Road last night (Saturday, December 7), crushing a bordering wall and stopping traffic from crossing.

Labour city councillor Mark Lygo said: “Headington Hill Road is blocked completely, by foot, cycling or any form of transport, fallen tree.”

The road remains closed as of this morning (Sunday, December 8) with a cleanup crew sent to the scene to remove the tree.

Drivers have been told to avoid the area with road closed signs left at the site while bus services in the city have been diverted as a result.
