Stanley Alfred Gilbert, who resided in Swindon, died on November 1 at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Headington following a fall in Oxford.
A full inquest was held into the death of the 92-year-old on Friday, November 29 by Oxfordshire senior coroner Darren Salter.
The court heard that at approximately 1.40pm on October 24, Mr Gilbert tripped and fell while walking with his family at Between Towns Road near Templars Shopping Park.

He sustained a head injury and was taken by ambulance to the John Radcliffe Hospital.
The court heard that he subsequently deteriorated and died.
His medical cause of death was given as traumatic brain injury and Mr Salter concluded his death as an accident.
The inquest was held in writing out of court.
