MSU, Ole Miss women set for Oxford basketball meeting

Mississippi State’s Debreasha Powe, right, and Rita Igbokwe from Ole Miss battle for position in the first meeting of the season in Starkville on January 14.

After Ole Miss dominated the first couple of decades in the sport, things evened out before Vic Schaefer dominated the series. The Rebels’ hire of coach Yolette McPhee-McCuin and the loss of Schaefer has brought more parody to the rivalry and for the better.

The Rebels won their first game in the series in seven years when they put a 14-game losing streak to a stop in 2022 with a 86-71 win over MSU in Oxford. Ole Miss got its first sweep in the series since 2004 last year. The Bulldogs got a little bit of that momentum back on January 14 of this year with a 69-57 win over the Rebels, but Sunday’s rematch in Oxford will be another test.
