Mystery sporting identity snaps up Aldgate land with shed and basketball court – realestate.com.au

Aldgate could have a new record land price after a mysterious high profile sporting identity snapped up a semi-developed property in a hush-hush deal.

The property at 19 Oxford Rd, which comes with a shed, a basketball court, plenty of green space but no house, is said to have sold north of $1.125m, the current record land price record for the prominent Hills town.

Selling agent Arabella Hooper of Harris Real Estate said the unique allotment proved to be hot property with buyers, with her office receiving five formal offers, including from a prominent sporting identity whose name she could not divulge.

“I think what was so unusual about this parcel of land was that it was so well set up. All you had to do was plonk your barn-style house or whatever you wanted on there and you were good to go,” she said.

“So buyers were really intrigued by that and we ended up with multiple offers and ended up selling to an overseas buyer who is an elite sports person looking to retire in Adelaide when they can no longer perform at that level.

“He used to ride past it on his bike as a kid and he and his friends would often cut through it. So when he travelled past it on his way to a tournament (recently), he knew he had to make an offer.”

The 2.4ha land parcel has been cleared for future development, with two dual sheds offering a safe space for up to seven vehicles behind electric roller doors.

The property also already boasts a powerful solar system, a half basketball court and all the rainwater, mains and dam-fed irrigation needed for a waterwise and economical life on the land.

Aldgate Primary, popular Fred Eatery, Aldgate Pump Hotel as well as both Stirling and Bridgewater villages are only minutes away.

“Often, with a block of land, there is so much work to do but with this one, not only is it in a dress circle but all the hard work was done and you can just picture yourself and where you want to build your house,” Ms Cooper said.

“The vendors did originally have a cottage there and intended to rebuild but by time they decided on a design, life got away from them and the kids had left home.

“It was very much a passion project for them and that’s evident in how it’s presented but now, it’s someone else’s turn to finish what they’ve started.”
