Seoul Plaza which is a chain that sells a variety of Korean food and drinks opened up its latest store in Cornmarket Street on Friday, October 18.
Despite being housed in the relatively new Cheng Yu Tung building owned by Jesus College and being a well-known brand, the store fell majorly short during an inspection.
Oxford City Council’s Environmental Health team visited the premises on Thursday, November 7, and stated that “urgent improvement” was necessary.

Korea Foods, who own the chain, has revealed that the food prep area had to be closed due to the low score received.
A spokesperson for Korea Foods said: “As a business with multiple sites across the country, we work extremely hard to provide the highest standards.
“At our site in Cornmarket Street, there was a lack of hot water and there was a breakdown within our own training, which meant that subsequent to a visit from Oxford City Council, we voluntarily closed the food preparation area with immediate effect.
“Since the closure of the food preparation area, we have addressed all the issues and re-invited Oxford City Council to ensure that our re-opening was under their full approval.
