Oxford United reach agreement to sign 24-year-old striker

Oxford United have reached an agreement to sign FC Utrecht striker Ole Romeny, according to VP.

Oxford United are poised to lure the attacker over to England with the January transfer window now open for business. They are currently sat in 18th place in the Championship table and are five points above the relegation zone.

Romeny, 24, is under contract at FC Utrecht until the summer of 2026. He has made 14 appearances in all competitions so far this season and has scored two goals.

In this latest update regarding his situation this winter by VP, the player is set to leave Holland for a new challenge in the Football League this month.

Oxford United boss Gary Rowett has made a positive impression so far and has the chance to put his own stamp on his newly inherited squad over the coming weeks with some new arrivals. They also have the opportunity to let some individuals leave.

Oxford United could see Romeny as someone to bolster their attacking department.

As with any individual from abroad, it may take him a while to adapt to life in a new country.

The former Holland youth international started his career at DVOL before linking up with NEC Nijmegen as a youngster in 2011.

He rose up through the ranks of the latter and was a regular for them at various different youth levels.

Romeny broke into their first-team and went on to score 12 goals in 77 games altogether, as well as chipping in with eight assists.

He then had a loan spell at Willem II in 2020 before heading out the exit door permanently in 2022 when FC Emmen came calling.

The Nijmegen-born man found the net on 14 occasions in 51 matches during his days at De Oude Meerdijk before FC Utrecht swooped in.

What now?

A move to Oxford United is on the cards and if he can rekindle the form he had during his time at both NEC Nijmegen and FC Emmen, the U’s could have a useful asset on their cards.

He is still young and has potential to get better in the future if they stick by him.

Rowett’s side won 1-0 away at his former team Millwall on New Year’s Day in what was an impressive result at The Den.

They are in decent form at the moment and face Preston North End away this weekend.
