Police charge six with violent disorder following Reading and Oxford United football match incidents last year

THAMES Valley Police has made six further arrests following incidents of public disorder in Reading last year.

Disorder occurred on Friar Street and Station approach in central Reading on the evening of Tuesday, December 12, last year, related to a football fixture between Reading FC and Oxford at the Select Car Leasing Stadium that day.

Reading FC played Oxford United for the first time in decades on Tuesday, December 12, ahead of which police put Section 35 dispersal orders in place around central Reading and the Select Car Leasing Stadium.

It was in anticipation of incidents of disorder, and in total 10 arrests were made during the course of match day related to disorder.

Now police have charged six further people with violent disorder.

Ryan Brooks, aged 28, of Wick Close, Abingdon; Joseph Cockcroft, aged 48, of Northfield Square, Witney; Ben Britter, aged 49 and of St Johns Road, Thatcham were among those charged.

Also charged were Ian Taylor, aged 58, of Bramshaw Road, Tilehurst; Ethan Towse, aged 22, of Nire Road, Caversham; James Barnes, aged 36, of Oxford Road, Reading.

All six were charged via postal requisition between Friday and Monday, November 15-18, with a count each of violent disorder.

They are due to appear at Slough Magistrates’ Court on January 7 next year.
