Police update on Oxford school was placed into lockdown

Oxford Spires Academy was placed under an emergency partial lockdown yesterday afternoon (Wednesday, October 16).

The school sent out an email to parents informing them that police were in the area and that the school should be avoided until the situation was made safe.

“We have been advised by the local police that there is an incident in the local area,” read the email.

“Therefore we have taken the decision to put the school into a partial lockdown.

“All students will remain in lesson learning until the situation has been advised as safe.

“Please rest assured, all students are safe.

“We do not foresee this situation to continue for long.

“We will update you as soon as we have more information.

“We advise parents do not need to head to the school site.”

Thames Valley Police has now revealed the situation was caused by a child making threats.

A spokesperson for the force said: “We were called to Oxford Spires Academy on Glanville Road, Oxford today (October 16) at around 2.37pm.

“Officers attended the scene and a child, who was reported to be making threats, was spoken to.

“No criminal offences have been identified and the matter has been resolved.”
