Coventry City host fellow Championship side Oxford United this evening in the second round of the Carabao Cup.
Coventry City will come into this one hoping to return to winning ways following their draw last time out against Bristol City.
The point leaves Mark Robins’ side with four points after three games and they are yet to hit their best form so far this season.
Oxford United have done well to adapt to the Championship following their promotion. It is a long road ahead for the club, but they haven’t really looked out of place in any game they’ve played so far.
Tonight Oxford United make the trip to Coventry City for the second time already this season, this time in the cup.
Here, a handful of our writers make their predictions for the game…
Thomas Kelly-Hansford
“Coventry City will be the favourites here, but I don’t think it will be straight forward for them.
“The Sky Blues are a contender for top six this season, but we are yet to see the form that they would consider their best so far this year. Robins’ side will no doubt find their feet soon, but they may take their eye off the ball in what could be seen as an unwelcome distraction from the league.
“Oxford United narrowly lost to Coventry City in the league just a couple of games ago and they will have revenge in mind for tonight.
“Des Buckingham’s side have the ability to use that defeat to spur them on here, and I do actually think they will want it more and progress to the next round.”
Prediction: Coventry City 1-2 Oxford United
James Ray
“Coventry City and Oxford United played out a close and entertaining game in the Championship recently with the Sky Blues just about coming out on top thanks to a Haji Wright goal at the death.
“I can see another competitive game between the two second-tier sides in this one as well. Oxford have given a good account of themselves so far since rising from League One but they’ll be eager to find more joy in the cup as well.
“This should be a close one, and while the last meeting was decided at the death, I see this going all the way to penalties.
“In that scenario, I lean towards the home side.”
Prediction: (P) Coventry City 1-1 Oxford United
