Sunderland welcome Oxford United to Wearside in a Saturday 3pm kick off this weekend.
Sunderland take on last season’s League One play-off winners Oxford United in the Championship this weekend.
Just a few years ago, these two teams were finding it difficult to break out of League One. Now, Sunderland sit in 1st place of the Championship table and Oxford United in 11th.
Both sides have enjoyed strong starts to this new season with Regis Le Bris having won over the hearts of Black Cats fans, almost instantaneously.
Last time out, Sunderland beat Luton Town 2-1 in a tough, physical encounter, whilst Oxford United were held to a 1-1 draw at Derby County.
Oxford United manager Des Buckingham suffered a health scare during the game but looks OK to take charge of the game at the Stadium of Light this weekend.
Sam Parkin’s Sunderland vs Oxford United score prediction
Speaking on the Championship Check-In podcast, EFL pundit Sam Parkin has shared his score prediction for the game between Sunderland and Oxford United.
He said: “Despite their brilliant start to the season, I can’t make a case for Oxford winning at Sunderland.
“I can make a case for them rallying and playing well, which they’ve done pretty much every game this season, competitive until the end in every fixture.
“But I’ll go for Sunderland, and that would be the nine-point week. So let’s go for Sunderland to win, and win relatively comfortably. 2-0.”
Did Sam Parkin predict Luton Town vs Sunderland correctly?
Parkin actually got his Luton Town and Sunderland prediction wrong, going for a 2-0 Luton win on the night.
After a tough first half in which Sunderland were right up against it, the Black Cats scored twice in the second half through Chris Rigg and Romaine Mundle, eventually winning 2-1.
Chris Mepham shone for Sunderland on the night, among several other individual players.
