Stoke City’s Jordan Thompson is ‘expected’ to be available for their next game against Oxford United, as detailed in a report by StokeOnTrentLive.
Stoke City are back in action on Saturday 14th September with an away trip to the Kassam Stadium to take on newly promoted Oxford United. They won 1-0 against Plymouth Argyle at Home Park last time out so will be in confident mood at the moment.
Thompson, 27, has pulled out of international duty with Northern Ireland due to a calf strain. His country are in action in the Nations League over the next couple of weeks as they prepare for their upcoming clashes against Luxembourg and Bulgaria.
However, he will play no part for Michael O’Neill’s side which will help his recovery which is a boost. As per StokeOnTrentLive, the Potters hope to have him back for their next game after he missed their last two fixtures.
Stoke City midfielder poised for return
Thompson has been with Stoke City since 2020 and is now their longest serving player.
He adds more competition and depth to their ranks and is a useful asset to have.
His contract at the Bet365 Stadium expires in June next year after they exercised a 12-month option on his deal this summer.
The Potters have a big decision to make regarding his long-term future over the course of the next few months. They risk losing him for free in June 2025 if they don’t sell him in January, assuming he isn’t handed an extension anytime soon.
Thompson has made 156 appearances in all competitions for Stoke City to date and has scored four goals.
Prior to his move to his current club, he spent two years at Blackpool in League One.
The Belfast-born man started his career at Manchester United before switching to Rangers in 2015.
Thompson went on to play three times for the Glasgow giants and was loaned out to Airdrie, Raith Rovers and Livingston to get some experience away from Ibrox as a youngster before moving down the border to England.
Stoke City are sat in 11th place in the table right now with six points on the board.
They have won two and lost two of their first four fixtures and will be keen on hitting some form after the international break.
Getting Thompson back will be good news for them ahead of their trip to Oxford United.
