Rowett was appointed U’s head coach on December 20, and is now in the thick of the action with the games over the festive period.
United host Plymouth Argyle, and then visit Millwall and Preston North End over the course of the next week, by which point the January window will have opened.

Rowett said: “Time is of the essence. It’s important we sit down with Ed [Waldron, head of football operations] and his team, to try and go through the options of where they see the team going and where they see the targets, and what opportunities there are.
“I spoke to the owners around trying to strengthen, and I think there’s an appetite to sensibly try and build some improvements into the team as well through that recruitment.
“I’m looking forward to sharing ideas. I’ve obviously been in the Championship a long time.
“Mark [Sale, assistant head coach] has been in recruitment for the last four or five years, so he’s got a good angle on what’s required. I’m excited to build those relationships.”
