Undefeated basketball team make “comeback of the century” with GCSE results

Oxford Spires basketball team have not been beaten all year in the county championships and are now celebrating some impressive grades to cap off an incredible year.

Across the team, they achieved four grade 9s, thirteen grade 8s, eleven grade 7s, eighteen grade 6s and sixteen grade 5s.

Pictured in the centre front row Andoni achieved grade 8 in Mathematics, Biology, Business, Spanish and Sports Studies and grade 7 in History, physics, Chemistry, English Literature and English Language.

Pictured in the centre back row, team captain Tai achieved grade 7 in English Literature, Language, sports studies and mathematics, grade 6-6 in Science and 6 in History.

Player Kique Borja said: “I’m really happy with my results and I feel like I have done the comeback of the century.

“From my mocks, I didn’t think I would pass in any subject really but I’ve come back and got a 6 in maths and everything’s looking good.

“I want to thank Ms Cowley of course and the school has definitely taken a turn, hopefully we’re sixth form ready.”

Headteacher of Oxford Spires, Louise Cowley, said: “I am absolutely delighted with our students’ excellent results today and I am very proud of their hard work and dedication.
