Vivek Agnihotri declines Oxford Union debate on Kashmir, labels the theme as ‘offensive, anti-Indian’ – Times of India

The Kashmir Files director, Vivek Agnihotri, on Thursday said he has declined an invitation by Oxford Union to debate on Kashmir, as he found the theme “offensive” and “anti-India”. The development was confirmed by Agnihotri in an X post.
The director tweeted, “I was invited by the prestigious Oxford Union to debate on Kashmir. I found the theme offensive, anti-India, and anti-Kashmir.” He further added, “On principle, I have declined the offer.”
In addition, Agnihotri posted copies of the invitation Oxford Union sent him as well as his response turning it down. The formal invitation mentioned Agnihotri as “one of the most well-equipped individuals to talk on this challenging topic in today’s highly pressing climate”. The invitation further mentioned that the current Pakistani Defense Minister and British MP Naz Shah were among the other invitees. It stated the invitees also included an Indian Supreme Court Justice.
In his response denying the invite, Agnihotri wrote, “Your invitation to debate ‘This House Believes in an Independent State of Kashmir’ is a direct challenge to India’s sovereignty, and it is unacceptable to me.” Agnihotri’s Humanity Tour was postponed at Oxford University by the Oxford Union in 2022. Agnihotri then declared that the Oxford Union Society’s then-elected President was a citizen of Pakistan and that he supported the position opposing India.
On the work front, Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri is all set to take audiences on another impactful journey with ‘The Delhi Files’.
