Waterstones is opening two more new London shops, in addition to its return to Oxford Street. The new shops will open in Streatham and Lewisham in time for Christmas.
Work on the Streatham bookshop has already begun, and the bookshop team looks forward to opening its doors to their customers by mid-November.
Ciara Channell, bookshop manager Waterstones Streatham, said: “Streatham is a thriving area in want of a good bookshop, so the team and I are extremely excited to be bringing a shiny new Waterstones to the community! We feel passionately about fostering a love of reading in young and old alike, and we’ll be working hard behind the scenes to curate an interesting, welcoming, and beautiful bookshop ahead of our grand opening.”
Work on the Lewisham shop will start at the end of October and is expected to be complete at the beginning of December.
Claire Ledbetter, bookshop manager Waterstones Lewisham, said: “The team and I are incredibly excited to bring the newest branch of Waterstones to the book lovers of Lewisham! We look forward to becoming part of the town centre’s vibrant and diverse community and to start sharing great reading recommendations with our customers. With plenty of exciting plans underway, we can’t wait until we open our doors in a few weeks’ time.”
Last week Waterstones at John Lewis in Oxford Street opened its doors after eight years of absence from the iconic central London shopping region. The new bookshop is on the second floor of the John Lewis department store on Oxford Street, alongside the café.
At one point Waterstones had four shops on Oxford Street, the last of which closed its doors in 2016.
