💬 Gary Caldwell ahead of final game of the season

For the final time this season, manager Gary Caldwell has given his thoughts ahead of City match with Oxford United at SJP.

The match will bring the curtain down on a 2023/24 season that has had it all, from memorable cup runs, 13-match winless runs, last minute goals and more, but minds are now firmly on achieving a top-half finish in front of a sold-out home crowd.

“It has been a season of progression for us,” Gary said.

“Progression is never linear, it’s always peaks and troughs. You look at our start to the season, then the difficulty in the middle, then a brilliant run since Boxing Day. What we have done all the way is improve and develop and that is what we have to continue.”

City head into the final match of the season facing an opponent who need a result for the third consecutive season, with Oxford’s hopes of a play-off place resting on their trip to Devon.

“We still have a lot to play for as well, we have to keep that mentality and desire. You can see the players want to finish as high as they can in the league.

“We will be committed but we know Oxford need something and they will have a big following behind them so we need to make sure SJP is rocking.

“I think we have been a really difficult team to play against and we have very good rotations and way to set up with possession. Every game is different. I don’t think we’re easy to set up against.”
